Local golfers Fred Couples, Kirk Triplett and Ryan Moore are among the expected participants in the 2005 Masters.
With the final world rankings of the year published yesterday, Augusta National was able to begin putting invitations in the mail to golfers who had qualified for the tournament.
Couples, a Seattle native, qualified as a former Masters champion. Triplett, a product of Pullman High School, qualified with a top 16 finish in the 2004 Masters. And Moore, of Puyallup, earned a spot as the U.S. Amateur champion.
Husky ticket update
Tickets are available for Washington men’s basketball home games against Sacred Heart tomorrow, Houston Friday and California on Dec. 31. They can be bought at gohuskies.com, at the Husky Ticket Office or by phone at 206-543-2200.
For all other home games, a limited number of tickets, currently on hold for departmental use, will be released the Monday before games. Inventory will be available on gohuskies.com as soon as it is released for sale to the public.
Green River CC coach Sauers dies
Steve Sauers, the successful longtime men’s and women’s tennis coach at Green River Community College in Auburn, died Friday. Sauers, 64, died at Valley Medical Center in Renton after suffering a massive stroke the previous weekend.
Sauers coached at Green River for 35 years, his teams compiling a record of 920-171. Under Sauers, Green River won 35 titles in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges.

Felice Moore had 14 points as Eastern (6-3) extended its winning streak to five by beating the Warriors (11-5).
Evergreen 59, at Lewis & Clark 48
Jenny Olson had 11 points, 11 rebounds and four assists to lead the Geoducks (5-7) over the Pioneers (2-5).
At Gonzaga 66, Portland State 48
Ashley Burke had 17 points in the Bulldogs’ (8-2) win over the Vikings (1-7).
At Simon Fraser 88, Evergreen 69
Walter Tucker led Evergreen with 13 points in an exhibition loss.
Derek Raivio has been named West Coast Conference men’s basketball player of the week.
