The 6-foot-1 junior forward scored a career-high 34 points, one short of the school record, as the Mustangs defeated Lake Washington 73-61 in a KingCo 4A Conference opener. Edwards shot 13 of 21 from the floor, including 5 of 9 three-point attempts, and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Gorin, a senior, posted three state-qualifying times — one individual, two relays — in a KingCo 3A dual-meet win over Sammamish. He followed that the next day with four state-qualifying marks — two individual, two relays — in a nonleague meet against Mount Rainier.

The Islanders, coached by Ed Pepple, overcame an early double-digit deficit and rallied in the fourth quarter to beat Sammamish 55-44. Mercer Island trailed by five with six minutes left when the Islanders went on a 17-1 run to close the game. Noah Blakney scored 17 of his game-high 18 points in the second half and also made the go-ahead layup for Mercer Island (4-2).
