SUMNER – Maya Shipway could have been forgiven for feeling left out.
Shipway, the Bear Creek goalkeeper, spent most of Friday night at Sunset Chev Stadium by herself. While her Grizzlies teammates put on a skills clinic during a dominating 7-0 girls state 1B/2B semifinal victory over Liberty Bell, Shipway admitted things got chilly as temperatures dipped toward freezing.
“You just basically jump up and down and try to stay focused,” Shipway said.
The two-time defending state champs advanced to Saturday’s 2 p.m. championship match against Crosspoint of Bremerton.

“The hardest thing for us sometimes is coming into a game with the mentality of being ready to play,” said coach Brandon Gonzalez, whose Grizzlies had beaten Liberty Bell already earlier this season, 4-0. “I think we were ready from the first whistle.”
In the second minute, Hannah Bauermeister gathered herself and the ball off the right side of the goal mouth. Bauermeister made a quick turn and fired past Liberty Bell goalie Hannah Hafsos.
Bear Creek, from Redmond, methodically built a 5-0 lead over the first 40 minutes of play. The Grizzlies put 16 shots on goal in the first half, scoring on four, and Liberty Bell put in an own goal in the 18th minute.
Crosspoint 7, Adna 6 (6-5 PKs)
The Warriors from Bremerton won it on the seventh penalty kick when Maria Andersen punched home the game-winner.
Regyn Gaffney scored five times for the Pirates, including four times in a row as Adna turned a 5-2 deficit into a 6-5 lead with less than five minutes to play in the game. But Crosspoint got its only goal of the second half in the waning seconds to tie it at 6 on Emma Laurion’s goal that sent it into overtime.
