LAS VEGAS – Freshman Zach LaVine, a former Bothell High School standout, and Jordan Adams each scored 21 points to lead No. 19 UCLA to a 105-84 victory over Nevada on Thursday in the opening round of the Las Vegas Invitational.
LaVine posted a career high in scoring for the second consecutive game. He had 19 points Sunday in a 106-65 victory over Chattanooga.
LaVine has made 7 of 9 shots from the field in each of his last two games. In his last three games, he is averaging 17.3 points on 79 percent field-goal accuracy.
LaVine, a 6-foot-5 guard, scored 10 of the first 25 points by the Bruins (6-0). His fast-break dunk give UCLA a 42-28 lead with 4:21 left in the first half.

“I take a lot of shots before games,” LaVine said. “I feel confident with my shot right out of the gate. (And) once you get a dunk, it gets you rolling a little more and gets you a little bit more rhythm.”
UCLA shot 61 percent from the field, including 10 of 20 three-pointers, and made 27 of 29 free throws.
In other games involving Pac-12 teams, No. 20 Creighton beat Arizona State 88-60 in the opening round of the Wooden Legacy in Fullerton, Calif., and Villanova defeated USC 93-79 in the quarterfinals of the Battle 4 Atlantis in Paradise Island, Bahamas.
Doug McDermott led Creighton (5-0) with 27 points and Jahii Carson scored 15 for Arizona State (6-1).
Pe’Shon Howard scored 23 points for USC (4-2).
On Wednesday night, members of the USC and Texas-El Paso coaching staffs exchanged heated words at a pretournament gathering.
USC coach Andy Enfield — who led little-known Florida Gulf Coast into the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament last season — was quoted in December’s issue of Men’s Journal talking about UTEP coach Tim Floyd, saying he “shows up every day at work and realizes he lives in El Paso, Texas. And he’s (angry) that he didn’t get the USC job.”
The relationship with Floyd, a former coach of the Trojans, and Enfield has been tenuous for some time amid allegations USC tampered with a recruit who was committed to the Miners.
PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – Freshman Andrew Wiggins scored 12 of his 17 points in the second half and No. 2 Kansas moved into the semifinals of the Battle 4 Atlantis, downing previously unbeaten Wake Forest 87-78.
The Jayhawks (5-0) play Villanova (5-0) on Friday for a berth in the tournament-title game.
