BELLINGHAM — John Allen, the West Region Player of the Year, had 29 points to lead defending national champion Western Washington to a 102-87 victory over Chaminade Friday night in the NCAA Division II West Regional at Carver Gym.
Allen, a senior guard from Mountlake Terrace High School, also had eight assists for the Vikings (28-2). He was 8 of 15 from the field and 10 of 10 on free throws, and has 1,430 career points, six short of ninth place in school history.
Western Washington, seeded No. 1 in the West and ranked No. 4 nationally, will play Cal State San Bernardino in a regional semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
Chaminade, the region’s No. 8 seed, finished the season 19-11 despite 32 points from Bennie Murray.

Guard Brian Goins got 10 of his 23 points in the final five minutes as the Coyotes (20-8) held off the Red Storm (22-7). Dixie State, from St. George, Utah, led 61-60 with just under three minutes remaining before Juan Martinez and Goins hit three-pointers for San Bernardino.
