Despite holding a 14-12 advantage in shots, the Seattle University women’s soccer fell 4-1 to Santa Clara on Monday afternoon at Championship Field.

Jessie Ray scored her fourth goal of the season for Seattle U.

“I was proud of the opportunities we created in the first half,” said coach Julie Woodward. “Going into the second half, it was our goal to not give up another goal and we did that.”

Seattle U tested the Broncos, who advanced to the Sweet Sixteen in last year’s NCAA tournament, scoring in the second half after earning a corner kick in the 57th minute. The ball settled at the feet of Olivia Ovenell. She sent a ball arching over the traffic and found Ray, who headed the ball over the Santa Clara goalkeeper.
