CANCUN, Mexico — Ivory Latta scored 28 points to lead No. 7 North Carolina to a 79-72 victory over No. 16 Arizona State at the Caribbean Classic on Friday.
The Tar Heels (3-0) outrebounded the Sun Devils 38-28, led by sophomore Erlana Larkins with 12.
Latta shot 7 of 14 from the field, including 4 for 6 on three-pointers.
Rashanda McCants scored 16 points for North Carolina, which led 37-27 going into the break and scored the first five points of the second half.
The Tar Heels shot a season-high 48 percent, while the Sun Devils (3-1) shot 56 percent.
Jill Noe scored 20 points for Arizona State. Kristen Kovesdy had 17 points and Emily Westerberg — a former Central Valley High School standout — had 11 points.

Gabrielle Richards collected 18 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots as the Ducks (4-1) beat the Razorbacks (2-1).
Eleanor Haring added 14 points for Oregon, and senior Kedzie Gunderson of Bellevue tied her career high with 13 points. Gunderson made 5 of 9 shots from the field and pulled down six rebounds.
