PORTLAND — Pooh Jeter and Darren Cooper combined for 46 points to lead Portland to an 80-72 win over Oregon on Thursday.


The result gave the Pilots victories over Oregon, Oregon State and Portland State — the first time they have swept their in-state rivals in 49 years.


Ben Sullivan added 12 points for the Pilots (5-7), who overcame a slow start to take a 42-35 halftime lead and never trailed again.


Aaron Brooks from Franklin High School led the Ducks (6-5) with 13 points and Malik Hairston and Adam Zahn added 11 points each.


Jeter, who had 25 points, hit a three-pointer to give the Pilots their biggest lead, 58-46 with 11 minutes left.


Oregon’s Chamberlain Oguchi then hit two three-pointers as part of an 8-0 run that trimmed the lead to 58-54.


The Pilots, however, thwarted the rally with five straight points, highlighted by a three-point play from Cooper.


Portland hit 7 of 8 free throws in the last 30 seconds.

In Honolulu, Chris Stephens scored 21 points the Beavers advanced in the consolation round of the Rainbow Classic.


Oregon State (5-4) will play Western Michigan today for fifth place. South Florida (5-5) faces Loyola Marymount for seventh in the eight-team tournament.


Sasa Cuic added 12 points, including three three-pointers for Oregon State. Solomon Jones led South Florida with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Bryson Krueger scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half as the Sun Devils won the championship game of their ASU Hoops Classic.
