Eastern Washington Eagles

Coach: Wendy Schuller, 5th year.

2004-05: 16-12 overall, 8-6 Big Sky. Lost in quarterfinals of the Big Sky Conference tournament.

Star players: Felice Moore, a senior forward from Spokane’s Central Valley High School, led the Eagles in scoring last season (11.6 points) and was second in rebounding (5.2). Senior forward Julie Page was Eastern’s second-leading scorer (10.4) and top rebounder (5.3) as the team’s top reserve.

Impact newcomers: Leah Gonnella, a transfer from Toledo, and freshman Phynique Allen will split time at point guard. “We need them as a combo to do a great job for us,” Schuller said.

Bottom line: Schuller insists the Eagles will play as a unit and have no “star” players. But with a young backcourt, experienced frontliners Moore and Page will have to step up. The Eagles also need to cut down on turnovers after averaging about 20 a game last season.

Quotable: “We’re 12 deep, and not afraid to use all 12.” — Wendy Schuller.
