Saint Martin’s softball player Lacey McGladrey, a senior out of Bothell High, was named the female scholar-athlete of the year in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

The accounting major has a 3.64 grade-point average. On the softball field, she hit .383 this season and was fourth in the GNAC in hits with 62. A .377 career hitter, she was named to the GNAC all-conference first team four years in a row.


• At the Pacific Northwest Golf Association’s Super Senior championship, Chris Maletis of Portland was the winner by three strokes at Brasada Ranch in Butte Powell, Ore. Maletis went 67-70-71—208 to beat Gay Davis of Portland by three strokes. Jim Knoll of Sunnyvale, Calif., took the Senior division with a 69-73-66—208, two strokes better than Tom Brandes of Bellevue.

Shari Knapp, a former jockey at Longacres and Emerald Downs, died Sunday in Tucson, Ariz., of a heart attack. She was 49. She began riding at Longacres at 16 years old in 1980 and raced in the Northwest and California until 1995. In 1981, she represented the U.S. in the Can/Am jockey competition at Exhibition Park in Vancouver, B.C.
