According to a news release from the Orting Police Department, the unnamed officers responded to the residence shortly after 5:30 p.m. after a 911 call from a distraught woman upset with a friend and threatening to break into a gun cabinet.

After officers arrived at the scene, a woman emerged from the residence armed with what appeared to be a firearm. During the confrontation, one of the officers fired shots and the woman was struck, police said.

She retreated into the residence, then later surrendered to the officers at the scene, police said. She was taken into custody and later taken to a hospital for treatment. Her condition was not disclosed last night.
