A woman who jumped or fell from a Washington state ferry Saturday night was rescued by crew of the Wenatchee and turned over to emergency medical personnel when the vessel docked at Bainbridge Island.

Susan Harris, spokeswoman for the ferry system, said the 9 p.m. sailing of the Wenatchee was about halfway across Puget Sound when crew members were alerted that a woman was overboard. Ferry workers lowered a rescue boat, and passengers spotted the woman in the water shouting and waving her arms.

The Wenatchee crew pulled the woman from the water and returned her to the ferry, which completed its sailing to Bainbridge Island. Harris said she didn’t know if the woman sustained any injuries or how she ended up in the water.
