Sound Transit Regional Express will operate on a modified schedule today and on a Sunday schedule tomorrow. The Sounder commuter train will not run today or tomorrow.


Community Transit will be on a Saturday schedule today and tomorrow. Everett Transit will operate on regular hours today and on a Sunday schedule tomorrow.


Pierce Transit will have regular service today, operate on a Sunday schedule tomorrow and offer local rides for free tomorrow.


* State ferries on the Seattle-Bainbridge run will be on a holiday schedule today and a regular Saturday schedule tomorrow. Edmonds-Kingston will operate on a Saturday schedule today and tomorrow.


Fauntleroy-Vashon-Southworth and Seattle-Bremerton will be on a regular schedule today and a Saturday schedule tomorrow.


Mukilteo-Clinton and Point Defiance-Tahlequah will operate on a holiday schedule today, with extra runs this afternoon, and on a regular Saturday schedule tomorrow.


Anacortes-San Juan Islands and Port Townsend-Keystone will follow regular schedules today and tomorrow.

* Most government offices are closed today and tomorrow.


* Most banks and credit unions will close early today and be closed tomorrow.


* All Seattle and King County public-library branches are closed today and tomorrow. Sno-Isle libraries will close early today and be closed tomorrow.


* Post offices will have regular hours today, but no service tomorrow. Mail carriers will be making regular home deliveries today, but none tomorrow.


* State liquor stores will close at 6 p.m. today, and all stores will be closed tomorrow.


* Many retailers will close early today, including major shopping malls, which will close by 6 p.m.


* Puget Sound Blood Center, at 921 Terry Ave. on First Hill in Seattle, and other blood-center branches are open until 4 p.m. today. All centers will close tomorrow. Information: 800-398-7888.


Holiday helpers


Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission’s Men’s Shelter, 318 Second Ave. Ext. S., will serve free Christmas meals to the homeless tomorrow: breakfast from 7 to 8:30 a.m., and ham dinner at 5, 6 and 7 p.m.


New winter schedule


The state ferry system will begin its winter schedule on Sunday and implement seasonal cuts or changes in service.


Weekend service for the Fauntleroy-Vashon-Southworth route will be decreased from three vessels to two. There also will be several changes to Anacortes-San Juan Islands routes, and during the winter there will be no service between Anacortes and Sidney, B.C.


The winter schedule will be in effect through March 19. Schedules are available at ferry terminals, libraries and www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries
