Saturday’s Seafair Torchlight Parade, a 3-mile highway-construction closure in Auburn, sporting events and concerts add up to weekend traffic delays that will require travelers to find detours.

King County Metro Transit and Sound Transit will shift 35 bus routes starting at 3 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. Saturday for the parade, which runs the entire length of Fourth Avenue from Seattle Center to Pioneer Square.

However, Metro insists that “riding transit is still the best way to get to these events,” considering the congestion caused by 500,000 parade fans, parking shortages and limited general-traffic lanes.

Reroutes include lines C, D, 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 21, 24, 26, 28, 33, 36, 40, 43, 47, 49, 66, 70, 83, 84, 99, 120, 125, 131, 132, 522, 545 and 554.

This week, save 90% on digital access.

Also, routes 120, 124, 125, 131, and 132, to White Center and airport-area suburbs, will use a temporary stop at Third Avenue near Union Street, instead of the usual Third and Pike stop.

Details can be found through Metro Online.

Road closures include:

• Auburn, a weekend closure of eastbound Highway 18 from Highway 167 to Southeast 304th Street, from 8 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday, to repair ruts and potholes.

According to project engineer Aleta Borschowa, the all-weekend shutdown will disrupt travelers less than the alternative of many weeknight closures, on what is a connecting route between I-5 at Federal Way and I-90 at Snoqualmie.

• Downtown Seattle, all southbound lanes of I-5 under the state convention center will close from 11:59 p.m. Friday until 5:30 a.m. Saturday for annual tests of the fire-suppression equipment. Traffic must exit at Stewart Street. Drivers can switch from the mainline into the I-5 express lanes at Northgate, or enter from other onramps to bypass the closure.

• Seattle, the I-5 Corson Avenue South interchange in both directions will close from 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday for expansion joint and pavement work.

• Seattle, the northbound Alaskan Way Viaduct closes for two hours, from 5:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Saturday, for the Seafair Torchlight Run, between Spokane Street and the Battery Street Tunnel.

Public buses that normally take the Viaduct, such as the RapidRide C and 120 lines, will detour to I-5 and exit at James Street, where buses are allowed to cross the parade route and reach Third Avenue.

• Monroe, Highway 522 near the Snohomish River bridge will close from 12:01 a.m. until 6 a.m. Sunday for bridge repairs. Detour routes are on Highways 2 and 9.

• Seattle-Bellevue, the southbound I-5 ramp to Highway 520 will close from 11:59 p.m. Saturday until 6:30 a.m. Sunday for signal repairs.

Events in Seattle include the Capitol Hill Block Party, beginning at 3 p.m. Friday and lasting all weekend; Seattle Mariners baseball games Friday evening and Saturday and Sunday afternoons; UFC fighting at KeyArena Saturday afternoon; the English-Irish boy band One Direction at the Key on Sunday night; and Sounders FC soccer Sunday night.

The I-90 express lanes will point west all day Sunday from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m., to help traffic entering Seattle for the Sounders game. The lanes will point east by 9 p.m., in time for postgame traffic to Bellevue.
