The Seattle Center Monorail, closed since a fire on May 31, reopened today at 1:30 p.m.


The “Red Train,” which has been rewired and retrofitted with fireproof materials, left the Seattle Center with Mayor Greg Nickels and Santa Claus on board. It will operate until 7 p.m. today. Its twin “Blue Train,” singed in the fire, remains idle until spring.


The operating hours will be Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
