Woodland police arrested a woman suspected of abusing the 3-year-old son of her boyfriend by burning his hands with a hot iron and pushing him down the stairs.
Emergency room staff at Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center contacted Woodland police about an injured child about 4:45 p.m. Wednesday.
The victim, a 3-year-old boy, had suffered burns to his hands and severe head trauma, according to Woodland police.
After interviewing both the victim’s father and his live-in girlfriend, police arrested girlfriend Teresa Hernandez, 33, on suspicion of two counts of first-degree child abuse.

Police say Hernandez used a hot iron to burn the back of the boy’s hands and had pushed him down a flight of stairs causing a brain injury. The alleged abuse occurred at their Woodland apartment Woodland.
Hernandez was booked into the Cowlitz County Jail in Kelso.
The boy was moved to Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland where police say he is in serious but stable condition.
