Washington state’s first ski-resort gondola opened Saturday under sunny skies at Crystal Mountain. Each enclosed gondola on the $5.5 million system seats eight and makes the trip to the top, a 2,456-foot vertical rise, in just under 10 minutes — half the time of the old two-chairlift route. And now nonskiers are also able to enjoy the view of Mount Rainier and eat at the Summit House, which brags that it is Washington’s highest restaurant.
