Republican Ken Klein and Democrat Bill Blake led in Tuesday’s Snohomish County District 1 primary race, closely followed by Republican Gary Wright.
At press time, Klein had 31.4 percent of the 15,208 votes counted Tuesday, while Blake received 28.6 percent and Wright was at 24.2 percent.
Arlington Democrat Carsten Mullin and Marysville Libertarian Sean Olson trailed the pack, with 9.3 and 5.9 percent, respectively.
The District 1 seat will be vacated by John Koster, the council’s lone Republican, who has served his three-term limit.

Klein, 34, is an Arlington city councilman who campaigned on making the county more friendly to businesses both small and large.
Blake, 54, is a stormwater manager for Arlington and a co-chairman of the Stillaguamish Watershed Council, a consortium of agencies devoted to maintaining a healthy watershed.
Wright, 69, serves on the Snohomish County Economic Development Task Force, the county’s Transfer and Development Rights Committee and the Marysville downtown revitalization committee.
In the race for Councilman Dave Gossett’s District 4 seat, Mill Creek Democrat Terry Ryan and Mountlake Terrace Republican Robert Reedy received 68.1 and 31.4 percent, respectively, of the 13,457 votes counted Tuesday.
The general election in November will determine which of them will succeed Gossett, who has reached his term limit on the council.
In District 5, incumbent Councilman Dave Somers, a Democrat, received 56.2 percent of the vote, while opponent Chris Vallo, a Republican from Lake Stevens, received 42.9 percent. Both will advance to the general election.
