Lakewood, Wash., police say one of their narcotics-detection dogs, a 10-year-old lab retriever mix, has been found after chewing his way out of his kennel during a storm.

Lt. Chris Lawler said earlier that Duke likely broke out because he was scared by Thursday’s thunder.

Lawler says the dog apparently wandered into a woman’s backyard. The woman recognized him from news coverage of his break-out, called him by name and he responded. She kept him until police picked him up.

The dog ran away from his handler’s home in the Spanaway-Graham area.

Duke has been with the department for more than six years.

Lakewood is near Tacoma.
