A soldier stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord died April 27 in Khalis, Iraq, from wounds suffered when his unit was attacked with an explosive device, Department of Defense officials said. Sgt. Keith Coe, 30, of Auburndale, Fla., was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 37th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division.

Sgt. Keith Coe, 30, of Auburndale, Fla., was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 37th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division.

Coe enlisted in July 2007 and completed initial entry training at Fort Sill, Okla., reporting to Fort Lewis in March 2008. He deployed to Iraq with the brigade in September 2009.

His awards and decorations include Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal and the Army Service Ribbon, officials said.
