A 33-year-old teacher at Todd Beamer High School in Federal Way is under investigation for second-degree rape, accused of having sex with a now-17-year-old student over the past two years, according to Federal Way police and King County prosecutors.
The man — a father of three who is in the midst of divorcing his wife of 12 years — was arrested Monday as he left his home in Auburn, according to court records and a statement of probable cause outlining the police case. A King County District Court judge on Tuesday found probable cause in the case and released the man from the jail at the Norm Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent on personal recognizance.
The day before the teacher’s arrest, the alleged victim told her mother that she had been having sex with one of her teachers for the past two years, the statement says.
The first encounter occurred in September 2010, and the last in February, it says. The two had sex twice in Federal Way and once each in Tacoma and Auburn, according to the statement.
