Kirkland Deputy Mayor Joan McBride has announced her intention to seek a third term on the Kirkland City Council.




McBride serves on the City Council’s public-safety and city/school committees and is chairwoman of the council’s finance committee. She is a six-year member of the I-405 Executive Committee and Kirkland’s representative on a regional forum that looks at salmon recovery in watershed areas.



Redmond



Fire district seeks




commissioner




Fire District 34, which covers 23,000 residents east of Redmond, is looking for a fire commissioner.




Russell Caney recently announced his resignation from the three-person board, and the district is now taking applications from people interested in finishing his term, which ends Dec. 31.




Applicants should send a letter of interest, including qualifications, to Board Chair, KCFD34, c/o Redmond Fire Department, 8450 161st Ave. N.E., Redmond, WA 98052.




The deadline for letters is Friday. Anyone with questions can call the Redmond Fire Department at 425-556-2200.

UW instructor to run




for City Council




John Spangenberg, board president of the Family Resource Center, has announced he is running for a seat on the Kirkland City Council this fall.




Spangenberg works as a city-planning consultant and as an urban-design instructor at the University of Washington.



Bellevue



Garden group wants




help to name mascot




The Bellevue Botanical Garden Society wants to name its toad mascot, the costumed critter who greets children at garden events.




The group’s Name the Toad contest is open to children ages 5-12. The entry deadline is July 31. Contest rules and entry forms are available at the Bellevue Botanical Garden Visitor Center, 12001 Main St., or at www.bellevuebotanical.org.
