Alaska Airlines says it will start flying between Seattle and the airport serving Steamboat Springs, Colo., on Wednesdays and Saturdays during ski season.

The airline says the flights will begin Dec. 18 and run through March 29. SkyWest Airlines will operate the flights using a 70-passenger jet.

Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. executive Rob Perlman tells the Steamboat Pilot & Today ( http://bit.ly/13NMuF0) that Seattle has a high concentration of skiers and riders. Perlman says the board of Steamboat’s Local Marketing District has committed money toward providing minimum revenue guarantees that were needed to secure the Seattle flight.

The flight gives the Steamboat Springs area another connection to a major hub with direct flights to Asia.
