Two trails: a half-mile trail in the northwest corner of the park, near the lake, and a 3.5-mile loop, .8 mile of which is wheelchair accessible.
Facilities: More than 200 campsites, about half with water and/or electrical hookups. Picnic tables face the water and canyon-like backdrop. Includes playgrounds, volleyball courts, horseshoe pits and water recreation such as fishing, boating and swimming in the designated lake area. Restroom with coin-operated showers and laundry facilities. There are ADA-accessible campsites and wheelchair-accessible restrooms.
Setting: One of the major campgrounds in Lewis County, the park has four areas to pitch a tent: main campground, Cascade Loop, Bird’s Eye View and S’mores Loop. Most campsites have views of Riffe Lake (formed by Mossyrock Dam). Expect to see lots of birds and chipmunks during summer and elk during winter.
Highlights: It’s a good campground for large parties and family reunions since you can rent out a pod, which includes five to six campsites; each pod includes water stations, fire rings, picnic tables, sinks, electrical outlets and a kitchen shelter with a fireplace/barbecue.
Plenty of fishing opportunities. There’s even a fish-cleaning station. Riffe Lake has cutthroat, rainbow trout, brown trout, coho, steelhead and bass. Or head three miles outside of the park to Swofford Pond, which is stocked with rainbow trout, brown trout and channel catfish, largemouth bass and bluegill. You can also take the short drive to Mossyrock Dam, which stands 606 feet above bedrock and is billed as “the tallest dam in the state.”
Restrictions: Leash/scoop law in effect except for dog park area.
Directions: Take Interstate 5 south to Highway 12 East (Exit 68). Drive east on Highway 12 for 21 miles. Turn right on Williams Street (flashing yellow light). Continue several blocks on Williams Street to a “T” intersection in the town of Mossyrock. Turn left onto State Street. Outside of town, State Street becomes Mossyrock Road East and then Ajlune Road. Ajlune Road leads into the park.
