For our Seattle Times Summer Guide, we asked readers about their favorite places for ice cream — and favorite flavors — for a summer day. With our first week of 80+ temperatures, now’s the time to trot out those responses:
Topping the list like Hershey’s syrup on French vanilla? No big surprise that Molly Moon’s has a loyal following (Wallingford, Madrona, Capitol Hill and Downtown Seattle; www.mollymoonicecream.com). “And there isn’t even a close second,” opined a Moonie.
Flavors? “Vivace Coffee!” exclaimed a reader who’d maybe had too much. Another straddled the garden fence between strawberry/rhubarb sorbet and honey lavender vanilla.
As with most front-runners, Molly also had her critics: “I find it too rich — I always leave feeling like my tongue is wearing a coat,” one reader bemoaned.

Full Tilt (Columbia City, White Center and U District; www.fulltilticecream.com) is also hot on its game. Said one Seattle creamavore, “If I could, I would live on their Salty Caramel ice cream, with Maple Walnut a very close second.”
The Roosevelt District’s Peaks Frozen Custard (peaksfrozencustard.com) got votes for friendly along with tasty. Said a Redmond fan, “If I had to pick a favorite, it would be Mango Swirl, but they always have Chocolate or Vanilla.”
Not much says summer picnic like banana-cream pie, unless it’s the gelato of that flavor, a reader favorite from Wallingford’s Fainting Goat Gelato, another one-shop wonder (faintinggoatseattle.com).
Raves also for the old-school Husky Deli in West Seattle (“best bang for your buck”); the Orange Creamsicle at Old School Frozen Custard (Capitol Hill and Bonney Lake); and the Cantaloupe flavor at Theno’s Dairy in Redmond.
On the road? A mountaineer from Maple Valley chills out at Scott’s Dairy Freeze in North Bend: “Nothing better than a big, cold cone after a hot day hike in the Cascades.”
Kudos, too, for Edaleen Dairy in Lynden (Chocolate Vanilla Swirl), also the maker of many of the flavors at Fir Island’s Snow Goose Produce (“scoops as big as your head”); Winegar’s in Ellensburg (Mint Chip Espresso Shake); Mallard in Bellingham (Coconut Chocolate Chunk with Almonds); and Elevated Ice Cream in Port Townsend (with “Blind Love, the best chocolate ice cream in the universe!”)
