SEATTLE proves it is a city that cares about its traditions with the news that the Fourth of July fireworks show is back on.
The annual event, including an all-day festival at Gas Works Park and a fireworks show after dark from a barge on Lake Union, was initially canceled because of a lack of money.
The news was disappointing. Seattle is a city that loves outdoor festivals and the fireworks show was a popular family event.
Corporate donors and community organizations were urged to step up and save it.

And they did.
Seafair will produce the show. The organization has the capacity after years of producing an eight-week summer festival with 75 different events, including hydroplane races, a marathon, milk boat derby and the Torchlight Parade — and don’t forget the pirates.
The fireworks show will be a joint effort. The Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce will help raise money. Corporate sponsors include Amazon, DoubleDown Interactive, Starbucks, Wells Fargo and Microsoft.
Details still are left to be worked out but the show will go on.
