October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which marks the arrival of pink products that benefit research programs.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which means pink products will take over shelves. Some are unfortunate marketing ploys, but many are sincere efforts to show support and raise funds for research.
Here are some of our favorites in the happy hue, all of which are transparent in their giving.
Antica Farmacista Damascena Rose, Orris & Oud Room Fragrance ($28 at anticafarmacista.com). The local fragrance company is donating 100 percent of profits from the sale of its Damascena Rose, Orris & Oud scented products in October to Stand Up 2 Cancer, in honor of company co-founder, Susanne Pruitt, who is a breast cancer survivor. The lush floral scent is wonderful as a room and linen spray, and is also available in diffusers, candles, soaps and more.
Estee Lauder Pink Perfection Color Collection ($35 at Nordstrom). Estée Lauder is donating 100 percent of the retail cost of this versatile palette to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. It includes four eye shadows, blush and a full-size lipstick, all contained in a hot-pink zippered case with a mirror.
Seattle Chocolates Extreme Dark Truffle Bar ($3.50 at Shine, South Lake Union). Pick up one of these pure dark-chocolate bars with a smooth meltaway center, and Seattle Chocolates will donate 100 percent of the net profits to fight breast cancer. Buy from Shine and you’ll do even more good: The boutique is owned and operated by Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, and proceeds support vital patient services.
GapFit Breathe Pullover Hoodie ($45 at gap.com). Gap has several items in its Breast Cancer Research Foundation collection, with this hoodie standing out for fall workouts. Gap will donate 15 percent of the purchase price to BCRF through Oct. 31, with a guaranteed minimum donation of $10,000.
Loft Gemstone Earrings ($35.50 at loft.com). Not every “pink” product has to be hot. These chic, limited-edition earrings sport just a hint of pink via rose-quartz stones, but 60 percent of the purchase price still will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation through Nov. 15.
