Local outdoors outfitter Filson is opening an experimental store in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle today at noon.

Located in the historic Hansen Building, next to The Loft and Ballard Pizza Kitchen, the 1,200-foot-space has a curated assortment of the flannel work shirts, Cowichan sweaters and small leather goods the company is known for, as well as some Ballard exclusives including a blanket, T-shirts and other accessories.

Filson Creative Director Alex Carleton says he’s always been drawn to the neighborhood and its maritime history. The store was designed to reflect that history, with recycled wood flooring, wood cases built in Port Townsend, and old photos, tools and taxidermy in every nook and cranny. It’s worth a look just for its celebration of Ballard and Seattle heritage.

The store is providing drinks and music from noon to 8 p.m. today (Nov. 23) to celebrate the opening. It’s located at 5101 Ballard Ave. NW.
