Now that spring is here, perhaps you’re craving a glass of lemonade. Or a refreshing twist of lime in your cocktail.

Well, citrus is as tasty visually as it is in food, and incorporating the colors can add a fresh spring look to your home décor.

Citrus colors — orange, green and yellow in a variety of tones — help brighten and lighten a space. And they’re generally gender-neutral, so if you are looking for universally appealing colors for a living room, master bedroom, child’s room or nursery, citrus colors are the way to go.

Here’s a little more on the three main citrus shades.

GREEN

Green is a color that can take a room in a number of different directions. A dark, deep green can create a warm, sophisticated look, while a bright lime is energetic and give a “pop” to walls and home accessories.

Greens play well with others. Combining green with matte black modernizes a traditional space. Paired with white, the color becomes more mineral and organic.

ORANGE

Orange is a happy color that can be seen as both youthful and sophisticated.

Pair orange with a rich charcoal gray or black, and it can serve as a gorgeous accent color in a master bedroom or living room. Conversely, pair orange with hot pink and you have the makings of a cheery children’s room.

YELLOW

Yellow is a fun, festive color that can range from bright and bold to deep and rich. A deep mustard yellow can brighten a space just as much as a brighter shade of yellow.

Yellow is one of the best choices to make a room feel bright and cheery, as well as for spaces that receive limited natural sunlight.

Citrus colors have become the new “it” colors for spring, allowing homeowners to think beyond traditional pastels. Citrus colors are also not trendy, allowing you to enjoy them season after season.
