SHAWNEE, Okla. (AP) — An hourslong lockdown at a central Oklahoma university has been lifted after police say they believe an armed suspect left the area.

Kenny Day, a spokesman for Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, says city police notified the university Sunday afternoon that a suspect they’d been chasing had fled on foot onto the campus. A lockdown was issued, and a sports facility near the university’s baseball and softball fields was evacuated.

Day says the lockdown ended just after 9:30 p.m. He says Shawnee police verified the suspect wasn’t on campus and believe he has left the area.

There were no reports of shots fired. It wasn’t immediately clear why the suspect was being sought.
