RAVE I will be inspired by Liz Duncan as I run the Boston Marathon Monday. Though I never met her, she energizes me every week on long runs because of the memorial bench family and friends placed on my running route. I touch her shoes and share the joy of running with her, reciting “life’s short, run long” as the placard reminds us. Thank you Liz Duncan’s family and friends for helping her live on and inspire us all.
RAVE To Chris, a young man who brightened our neighborhood by cleaning out the roundabout near his home, planting beautiful flowers amid new bark, painting the curbing and adding statues and Easter eggs. I hope he motivates others to do the same!
RANT To the Seattle Colleges board of trustees for voting to remove “community” from the names of North Seattle, Seattle Central, and South Seattle Colleges. As a faculty member for many years, “community” is the most important word in the name of my beloved school. Community colleges, even those that now offer 4-year degrees, are unique institutions that embrace and nurture the diversity of the many people who come through our doors for life skills, job training, academic opportunities, and connection to the world around them. Without “community,” our name no longer reflects the true spirit of our institution.
RAVE To the Emerald City Supporters (ECS) of the Seattle Sounders for their well-managed, magnificent singing, chanting and support at the recent away game in Portland. They lift all of us in their defense and support of club, city and state. Rave too, to the bemused Portland Police Department for their safe conduct of Sounders fans into and out of the stadium and for their rear and front escort of our coaches back to I-5 for the trip home. We felt honored and special to be part of such a motorcade. It was a proud day for those of us who love the Sounders, our home city and our supporters.

RAVE AND RANT Rave to the staff at the Seahawks 12k/5k Run at The Landing for putting together a fun race and entertainment. Rant to the walkers who ignored repeated instructions to line up at the back of the race waves and jammed up runners by walking side by side, taking up the entire width of the tight course.
RAVE To the kind lady who turned in my wedding ring to The Creamery ice cream store. I had surgery that day and gave the ring to my husband to wear on his pinkie and he didn’t notice when it slipped off. We were heartbroken until it was returned, we’re forever grateful. Many blessings to you.
