RAVE To organizers of the Capitol Hill neighborhood safety patrol “OutWatch,” demonstrating good community stewardship by providing volunteers to escort people to their cars or other safe places in the late evening/early morning hours. People should be able to get from Point A to Point B without being afraid or attacked.

RANT To the brewpub patrons who all looked, and some laughed, when a woman walking on the sidewalk fell and laid there. My husband and I were the only ones who rushed to help her. Because someone might be homeless or might be intoxicated doesn’t mean they should lay on the sidewalk with no help and people making fun of her. Have the decency to help anyone who falls, especially if they don’t get up. It’s a no-brainer!

RANT AND RAVE Rant to the designers of the Issaquah Highlands Park and Ride garage. It’s a daily miracle that incoming and outbound cars don’t have head-ons because the entrances and exits aren’t wide enough for cars to exit and enter at the same time, causing close calls every day. Rave to all the polite commuters who use the garage safely and to people who use the drop-off and pickup spots, rather than stop near exits and entrances to drop passengers off, causing traffic to back up coming in and out of the garage

RANT To the restaurant hostess who attempted to seat us next to the table with the squealing child. We declined and asked to be seated elsewhere, as did the other four couples she tried to seat there in the next hour during our excellent dinner; and rant for the couple with the squealing child.

RAVE To Darcey, an incredible woman who found a paycheck that my husband accidentally dropped at Seward Park, drove to my home on Sunday and called my employer Monday morning until she was able to reach me and assure me that the check was safe. I can’t thank her enough for her kindness and helpfulness!

RANT To musicians who are too hip to start playing on time, rampant in the Seattle music/bar scene. I went to hear a musician at a local bar with a stated start time of 9 p.m. — singer finally strolled out at 9:50. Have a bit of courtesy for the patrons who came to hear you, get a watch. Allow time to get set up, and start on time!

RAVE To the AARP Tax Foundation volunteers for their tax return assistance at local libraries. They got me a huge refund I wouldn’t have gotten otherwise, then e-filed my return, all for free. They were so kind and helpful, and I can’t sing their praises enough!
