To the wonderful volunteers at recent Can Do 5K in Bothell. Every year they enthusiastically cheer on walkers and runners along the course. Their energy always helps give me the boost I need to finish the 3.1 miles. Thanks again for another successful charitable event!
RANT AND RAVE Rant to the person who broke into my truck in a downtown parking garage. Rave to two kind people who stayed with my mom while I talked to the police officer downstairs. Your kindness was so appreciated.
RAVE To the many good Samaritans who came to our aid when we had mechanical trouble on the ferry as we were headed to visit our grandkids with a truck load of sandbox sand. One quick-thinking gentleman gave us some contractor’s duck tape to slow the leaking valve stem, and someone alerted the car deck chief to our problem; he allowed us to unload first and contacted the local Les Schwab to meet us. We were able to continue our journey safely and have a fun weekend watching our grandchildren play in their new sandbox.
RANT To people who litter and those who don’t clean up after their dogs on the Sammamish River Trail. Special rant to horseback riders who don’t bother to clean up after their horses, especially those who leave the droppings on the paved trail within view of the sign/shovel/mount block/trash bin.

RAVE Rave to the refuse collectors who negotiate through the Maple Leaf neighborhood alleys. That is some precision driving! I have trouble in a vehicle a third the size of those monster trucks. I’ll never laugh at the term “sanitation engineer” again. Thanks, gentlemen.
RANT To the young woman whose son yelled, screamed and jumped up and down while she drank wine, texted and visited with a friend and did nothing to control his disruptive behavior. You might consider takeout versus subjecting an entire restaurant of paying customers to your out-of-control child while we try to enjoy our meal.
RAVE AND RANT Rave for the man who helped me when I was trapped in a parking garage line because my credit card wouldn’t work; my credit-card company had put a hold on my card for questionable charges and left a message on my home phone while I was at work, so I didn’t know. I gave him the cash and he used his card so I could get out of the garage. Rant to the woman behind him who yelled to check the money to make sure it was OK — I hope your card is not unexpectedly compromised some day.
