Free! Free events and a chance for dogs to run free at the opening of a new off-leash park help roundout the pet events for October.

Mukilteo’s Tails and Trails Dog Park Grand Opening: 10-11 a.m. Oct. 27, 1301 Mukilteo Blvd., Mukilteo. The ¾-acre site is said to be the first off-leash dog park in the city. It’s part of the Japanese Gulch area. Opening celebration activities include a dog Halloween costume contest.

Wag Fest at Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden: 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Oct. 27, 2525 South 336th St., Federal Way (on the Weyerhaeuser Corporate Headquarters Campus). It’s the one day that dogs can enter the garden. Dogs must be on leash. View the plant displays, watch the F.I.D.O. Drill Team and join the 1K Dog Walk. This event is part of the Fall Foliage Festival and Plant Sale. (Dogs will not be admitted to the Rutherford Conservatory or speaker tent.) Free admission.
