Fit & Fun

Square dancers want to show you that it’s about a lot more than the do-si-do.

“Modern square dancing is a fun, healthy and highly entertaining activity done to all types of music and live singing,” says Barbara McDonald of the Samena Squares. “It promotes strong bones, helps memory, burns calories and develops strong social ties.”

The Squares have already begun their square-dance lessons, teaching beginners more than 50 square-dance moves, but latecomers are still welcome. The Squares charge $100 for 32 weeks of lessons and meet once a week (7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, at the Juanita Community Club in Kirkland).

This week, save 90% on digital access.

On Oct. 25, the club will be holding its Halloween Costume Dance, which will include beginning students.
