Fit & Fun

People have been paddling dragon boats for more than 2,400 years, and you can have your shot, too, by heading down to Lake Union.

The Seattle Flying Dragon Boat Club allows you to practice with a crew in a 42-foot vessel for free each Saturday at 8 a.m., Sunday at 3 p.m. or at 6 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays.

All equipment provided. No experience or reservations required, but expect considerable exercise. Kids between 12 and 17 are welcome if accompanied by a parent.

This week, save 90% on digital access.

You can find the action at South Lake Union Park, next to Kenmore Air, 950 Westlake Ave. N., Seattle.

“If they enjoy paddling and wish to continue, our annual dues are $100, and we still provide all equipment needed,” says the club’s Lee Bjorklund. “We’re a pretty cost-effective way to get on the water and get a workout since we’re out there 210+ times a year. “
