“Beautiful Creatures”: Richard LaGravenese’s film adaptation of the popular book by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, about a romance between a human boy and a female “Caster,” arrives at several theaters today.

“A Good Day to Die Hard”: The fifth film in the “Die Hard” franchise once again features Bruce Willis as John McClane. This time he teams up with his son (Jai Courtney) to battle evildoers in Russia. It also opens today at several theaters.

“Safe Haven”: Another film adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks novel, about the romance between two residents of a North Carolina town (Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamel). It also opens today at several theaters.

“Escape From Planet Earth”: In this new animated feature, an astronaut (voiced by Brendan Fraser) deals with life on the planet Baab. It also opens today at several theaters (at many in 3D).

“Happy People: A Year in the Taiga”: Werner Herzog’s documentary looks at a hardscrabble life in Siberia. It opens Friday at the Varsity Theatre.

“Let Fury Have the Hour”: Antonino D’Ambrosio’s documentary focuses on several artists whose works date from the punk era onward. It opens Friday at the Grand Illusion.
