Once, Suite 410 was synonymous with a vodka drink, the Hot Mango Love, one of the most popular candy cocktails in Seattle. That was its bragging rights.

Like glam rock or the rattail, some fads you shouldn’t cop to being a part of.

But this downtown bar has acquitted itself nicely. It has managed to pull off something that few bars and nightclubs have managed to do: It has found a second act, as a craft-cocktail den.

The wall is studded with whiskeys and mescals now. The drink menu runs seven pages long. Suite 410 has hit its stride in recent months. It has also picked up some new fans who miss the loss of the cocktail mecca Vessel nearby.

The interesting rye-and-Green Chartreuse stirred drink with hints of bark and roots was potent. But mostly, the cocktails aren’t spirit forward. Lots of sours and San Francisco-style cocktails. Lots of gins and tequilas infused with tea or mixed with citrus. It’s a more accessible list for the mainstream palate than most craft-cocktail bars’, which tend to feature more boozy, bitter drinks.

A refreshing rum number called Guy Fawkes with all spice, green tea, lemon and maple syrup, seems apt for spring. Mescal takes a strange turn in the Hamaca de Platano cocktail, mixed with banana liqueur for a ripe sweetness accompanied by some pleasant smokiness.

When the owners of the historic Oliver’s Lounge and the Mayflower Park Hotel took over this vodka bar and dolled up the joint, they brought in top-shelf stuff while fading out the candy cocktails. There are only four vodka drinks on the menu now.

There’s still no kitchen, however. As a consolation, a complimentary cheese-and-fruit spread is put out during happy hour. (You can also get food delivered from the Icon Grill.)

Suite 410 didn’t totally abandon all those “Sex and the City” wannabes. At the bottom of the last page of the menu: Hot Mango Love for $6 during happy hour.
