SPU professor Eric Hanson will direct his final concert with the university's orchestra-in-residence, Thalia Symphony, for the final time on June 3.

Thalia Symphony

Seattle Pacific University professor Eric Hanson will lead SPU’s Thalia Symphony for the final time on Thursday. While he’ll continue to teach music at SPU, he’s leaving the symphony after 23 years as director.

Hanson, an expert on Mahler, has guest-conducted orchestras such as the Denver Symphony and the Chicago Civic Chamber Orchestra. He has also served as a preconcert lecturer with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra.

The concert, whose theme is “Merrie Olde England” (repertoire includes works by Vaughan Williams, Frederick Delius and Edward Elgar), is at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, First Free Methodist Church, 3200 Third Ave. W., Seattle; $10-$15 (206-281-2048 or www.thaliasymphony.org).
