Tuesday’s releases go from “The Way, Way Back” to the way, way scary. Star ratings are by Seattle Times movie reviewers, freelancers or wire services. For full reviews, search the movie title at seattletimes.com. Release dates are subject to change.
“The Conjuring” (R): “James Wan’s haunted-house saga is well-crafted, convincingly acted, surprisingly restrained and scary as hell,” writes Seattle Times movie critic Moira Macdonald. Based on a real-life tale, it follows a family into a remote old farmhouse where strange things begin to happen. The cast includes Ron Livingston, Lili Taylor, Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson.
“Before Midnight” (R): The last in Richard Linklater’s relationship trilogy (after 1995’s “Before Sunrise” and 2004’s “Before Sunset”) catches up with Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and Celine (Julie Delpy) nine years after the middle film. Now in their 40s, with kids, they’re still together, walking, talking — and arguing.
