New DVDs

Tuesday’s releases feature several scream teams — not all of them cute and fuzzy. Star ratings are by Seattle Times movie reviewers, freelancers or wire services. For full reviews, search the movie title at seattletimes.com. Release dates are subject to change.

3 stars“Monsters University” (G): Pixar brings back the green one-eyed monster Mike Wazowski (voiced by Billy Crystal) and his fuzzy sidekick Sulley (John Goodman) to tell the tale of how these two became friends — and top scarers. Writes Seattle Times movie critic Moira Macdonald: “Mike and Sulley are irresistible — and so, mostly, is ‘Monsters University,’ which has plenty of chases, loud noises and bright colors for the kids, and a pleasantly nostalgic depiction of college for grown-ups.”

3 stars“Byzantium” (R): Filmmaker Neil Jordan (“Interview with the Vampire”) offers another bloodsucking story, this one about two female vampires — Clara (Gemma Arterton) in her early 20s, Eleanor (Saoirse Ronan) in her teens — who hole up in a decaying seaside hotel in present-day England.
