★★★ “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit” (PG-13): This origin story “gets the late Tom Clancy’s signature superspy right,” says movie reviewer Soren Andersen. The latest in the franchise — which includes “The Hunt for Red October,” “Patriot Games,” “Clear and Present Danger” and “The Sum of All Fears” — follows the CIA analyst as he goes from Wall Street to Moscow, where he tries to thwart a Russian scheme to crash the U.S. economy cooked up by an oligarch (Kenneth Branagh, who also directed). “With (Chris Pine) in the lead and Branagh at the helm, ‘Shadow Recruit’ is a thrill ride that delivers.”
★★★ “Alan Partridge” (R): The motormouth misfit DJ that Steve Coogan created for British television years ago is back, bumbling his way through a hostage situation at a radio station.
