Stay on track for your New Year’s resolutions and shake off winter doldrums at a variety of Parks and Recreation classes and facilities around Seattle. Many winter classes started this past week but there are still lots of options including drop-in activities to suit any busy schedule.

Seattle’s athletic fields, off-leash dog parks, 26 community centers, eight indoor pools, four environmental-learning centers and the Amy Yee Tennis Center offer affordable programs for every age and interest.

Keep your workouts varied and fun at drop-in fitness rooms with cardio and weight-lift equipment and open gym times for badminton, basketball, pickleball and volleyball, or check out youth-sports leagues, teen programs and lifelong-recreation activities for ages 50 and older.

Pools offer a variety of water-exercise classes and lap swims, along with lessons for all ages and public swims. Fees and hours vary by location; financial assistance is available for many programs and many Seattle Parks guided walks and other events are free.

It’s not too early for planning summer picnics at local parks. Reservations by mail or fax are available for picnic shelters in Seattle Parks through Feb. 28, with remaining sites available by phone or in person starting April 1.

Weddings and other special ceremonies in parks are also available by permit; see the Seattle Parks website for complete information on rental venues, scheduling procedures and fees.

Bellevue Parks and Recreation also offers a variety of events at its parks, four community centers, Aquatic Center, Robinswood Tennis Center and Mercer Slough Environmental Center’s Pacific Science Center programs for all ages.
