The Recording Academy announced nominees for the 2013 Grammy Awards Wednesday. A few artists with Northwest connections — including The Lumineers and producers Jake One and David Miles Huber — are in the mix.
Nominations were announced Wednesday for the 2013 Grammy Awards. In contrast to recent years, Seattle-area artists did not fare well. However, Seattle hip-hop producer Jake One got two nods for production credits, one for the album, “Some Nights,” by Fun., nominated for Record of the Year, and another for “3 Kings,” a track on Rick Ross’ album, “God Forgives, I Don’t,” nominated for Best Rap Album.
Beyond Seattle, Bellingham native Malay co-produced Frank Ocean’s album, “Channel Orange,” up for album of the year, and Denver band The Lumineers, which recorded its eponymous debut album at Bear Creek studios, in Woodinville, received two nominations, for Best New Artist and Best Americana Album.
The Lumineers’ album is best-known for the catchy single “Ho Hey,” which found an early champion in KEXP DJ John Richards.
Seattle record producer David Miles Huber was nominated for Best Surround Sound Album, for his record “Chamberland.”
