Enjoy weekend festivals throughout Seattle, from the Central Area Community Festival to Viking Days.
Festival season is in full swing in Seattle this weekend at a whirl of events with music, food and fun for every taste.
A Summer Streets party takes over the Columbia City neighborhood that proudly bills itself as Seattle’s most diverse, with entertainment on three stages; an art-bike contest and other bike-related events; carnival games; kids’ activities; vendors and food. Rainier Avenue South and some side streets in Columbia City will be closed to vehicles for the Saturday event that features the Rainier Valley Heritage Parade at 11 a.m.
Music, food and craft vendors and kids’ activities will be among attractions at neighborhood festivities on Saturday at the Delridge Day Festival in Southwest Seattle and the Central Area Community Festival. Seattle Center hosts Indigenous Cultures Day with dance music, art, film, food and children’s activities Saturday. Performers on the Armory stage will represent cultures and countries including Aztec, Mayan, Haida, Pacific Islanders, Peru, the Philippines and Tahiti, with contemporary music and live painting performances at the Mural Amphitheater stage.
Go Scandinavian at Viking Days in Ballard (naturally!) on Saturday and Sunday at the Nordic Heritage Museum. Both days start with a Swedish pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon and Norwegian lefse, Danish aebleskiver, Finnish voileipä open-faced sandwiches, Swedish meatballs, Icelandic sweets and a Valhalla Beer Garden to keep you fueled throughout the day. Dozens of groups will perform music from traditional folk to rock on multiple stages in the museum and on the festival grounds, and artists will demonstrate and sell a variety of Nordic crafts.

Travel back in time at the Viking Encampment to see what a day in the life of a Viking was like; a battle or two may even erupt in wild Old Norse style. Free museum admission is included both days of the event.
Seattle Hempfest on the waterfront will draw crowds Friday, Saturday and Sunday with music on six stages, vendors and speakers on cannabis policy reform.
Admission is free at all events. Canned-food donations are requested at the Summer Streets party to help build Seattle’s largest canned-food pyramid and benefit the Rainier Valley Food Bank.
