Festival fun around Puget Sound offers an array of choices to get out and enjoy summer this weekend. Head out of town or down the street to free events for all ages at festivals in Mercer Island, Kent, Mill Creek and Seattle and more.

The Mercer Island Summer Celebration kicks off Saturday with the Mercer Mile Run and Walk and the “It’s Magic!” grand parade, along with entertainment, kids’ activities and street fair Saturday and Sunday, and music, food vendors and a fireworks show Saturday evening at Luther Burbank Park. Reservations are recommended for narrated boat rides around the island and the Sunset Fireworks Cruise Saturday. Sunday starts with a pancake breakfast at the Boys & Girls Club and features a car show in additional to festival events in Mercerdale Park and downtown Mercer Island all day.

Kent Cornucopia Days, South King County’s oldest and largest festival, fills downtown Kent with a carnival and street-fair vendors, kids’ activities, pet adoptathon, entertainment, food court and beer garden Friday, Saturday and Sunday and a grand parade with floats, bands, drill teams, festival royalty and the Seafair Pirates Sunday. Special events Saturday include a 5K Run/Walk, Skateboard Tournament, and Dragon Boat Races at Lake Meridian.

The Mill Creek Festival and Street Fair aims to be the “dog friendliest festival ever” with Pet Plaza canine fashion shows, Puget Sound DockDogs competition, police dog demonstrations, vendors, pet adoptions and Pet Spa where dogs can cool off in kiddie pools. There’s plenty of fun for humans too, including arts, craft and food vendors, microbrew and wine garden, entertainment and Kids’ Korner with pony rides, firefighters and a fire truck, bouncy rides and Games on Wheels video games.
