RAVE To the rain-soaked volunteers with Hearing, Speech & Deafness Center (HSDC) who handed out thousands of 3M earplugs to Seahawks fans heading to the season home opener at CenturyLink Field. It was great to see and hear the best fans in the NFL set a new world noise record while protecting their hearing. Thanks to HSDC, I’ll use my free earplugs next time I go to a Seahawks game or KeyArena concert.
RAVE AND RANT Rave to the kind people who come to the cat rescue adoption rooms in local pet stores; the volunteers appreciate you taking time to socialize with the kitties. A rant to those dog owners who think it’s funny to bring their dogs right up to the room’s window to scare the cats and kittens inside. These cats have been through enough trauma without you adding to it.
RANT To the dog owners I encounter during almost all my frequent walks on the beach at Discovery Park. Dogs are prohibited by law from all Seattle public beaches, leashed or not. Your professed ignorance is disingenuous; the numerous signs prohibiting your behavior are hard to miss. Double rant to the dog owners on the beach with kids in tow; you are passing along your false sense of entitlement to the next generation.
RAVE When the Seahawks timed out because of inclement weather, so did Max, our 12-year-old standard poodle, who escaped our yard. Two blocks from home, concerned strangers offered him shelter. They took him to a local animal hospital, where he spent the night. The blog editor contacted the rescuers as our lost/found-pet posting arrived in her inbox, and they called, assuring me of Max’s safety. I arrived at the vet at 7:30 a.m. to be reunited with our MIA family member and asked what the charge was for his stay. “Nothing. We keep lost pets overnight free.” Thanks to all for facilitating the happy reunion.
