Enjoy spring at the farm or at the fair or immersed in the culture of Japan or with your dog at events around the area this weekend.

Spend the day at a historic farm in downtown Bellevue and watch sheep shearing at Kelsey Creek Farm Saturday, April 26. Resident and guest sheep will get spring haircuts. Other activities include tractor-pulled hayrides, exhibits from Bellevue’s agricultural past, sheep herding, pony rides and stuff for kids.

The farm’s resident rabbits, ponies, sheep, pigs, chickens and cows, on view daily, will welcome visitors.

“Fran, our five-month-old calf, is very noisy. She ‘sings’ so much we should put her on stage!” says park program manager AnnaMarie Solomonson. “We have two cute 7-week-old baby goats and hopefully new chicks hatching by Saturday.”

On-site parking at Kelsey Creek is very limited. Parking and shuttle service from Wilburton Park and Ride and Bannerwood Sports Park will be available. Admission is free, with fees (cash only) for some activities.

Animals are also attractions at Evergreen State Spring Fair, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Other entertainment includes carnival rides, quilt show, barbecue competition, a beer garden, and kids play area. Admission is free. A classic rock concert by Spike & the Impalers at 6:30 p.m. Saturday is also free, with tickets required because of limited space, available starting at 3 p.m. while supplies last. .

Seattle Center hosts the Seattle Cherry Blossom and Japanese Cultural Festival with activities, food and games Friday through Sunday. Founded 39 years ago, it’s the center’s longest-running ethnic festival. It boasts an art display, drumming, artist demonstrations and theatrical stage production at several venues.

Seattle Pet Expo at Seattle Center’s Exhibition Hall Saturday promises fun for both the two-legged and four-legged with pet-related information, exhibits, vendors, and agility and obedience demonstrations. Dogs are welcome and can get discounted vaccinations, microchipping and flea preventatives, and free nail trims.

Dozens of rescue groups will be on hand for a Mega-Adoption event, and CityDog magazine’s Cover Dog Model Search puts dogs on stage for a $10 entry fee to benefit Old Dog Haven.
