Coalition of faculty and students wants public search for next UW president: More than 3,000 people have signed a petition asking the University of Washington board of regents to publicly name finalists in the search for a new president. Former UW president Michael Young stepped down in the spring to take the top job at Texas A&M.

MIT working on new teacher training model (NPR): The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has received $30 million to develop a new teacher training model that is focused more on competency and less on time spent working toward a degree. The project is funded by the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation and Arthur Levine, the former president of Teachers College at Columbia University.
