California removes personal-belief exemption from vaccine requirements (AP): A bill that removes a personal-belief exemption from California’s school vaccination requirements was signed into law by Gov. Jerry Brown on Tuesday. The legislation requires nearly all schoolchildren to be vaccinated and comes in response to a measles outbreak at Disneyland last year.

Dorn says budget plan is unconstitutional: Washington schools chief Randy Dorn has blasted the Legislature’s new spending plan, saying the $1.3 billion in new funds for K-12 education falls short of  the McCleary requirements. Dorn said he wants the state Supreme Court to order lawmakers back for a second special session.

Colorado court strikes down voucher program (The New York Times): Colorado’s supreme court has struck down a voucher program in the state’s third-largest school district, saying it violates part of the constitution that prohibits public funds be used for schools that are “controlled by any church or sectarian denomination whatsoever.”
